Description:
This course will allow teachers to explore and develop activities for the first five levels of phonemic awareness. Fourteen specific skills will be shared and discussed in depth. Time will be allowed for participants to create and take home some of the activities that will be demonstrated by the instructors. As a result of this course, the participant will:

• Be able to define phonemic awareness.

• Be able to explain why and how phonemic awareness works.

• Be able to identify the five levels of phonemic awareness.

• Be able to demonstrate knowledge of the timeline for mastery of specific phonemic awareness skills.

• Be able to integrate differentiated instruction.

• Be able to distinguish between center rotations and independent centers.

• Be able to apply organizational skills to help achieve a successful phonemic awareness program.

• Be able to incorporate into their lessons the appropriate phonemic awareness skills for whole group, center, and differentiated instruction.
