AV Library - Computer Configuration Directions

Important!

Please read the following instructions before entering the Catalog section!

If you have used the Catalog before, and have already properly adjusted the settings on your computer, you may enter now, or return to the user's guide.

Following are the directions supplied by the software developer to use the Catalog. Please follow them carefully before accessing the system.

A. You must use Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.01 or later, or Netscape Navigator 4.05 or later for your browser.

B. If you are using a Mac, the company recommends using Netscape Navigator as your browser for the best results.

C. To search the library's database, the browser's cookies must be enabled.

To set cookies in Explorer 4.01:
1. Choose Internet Options from the View menu.
2. Click the Advanced tab.
3. Locate the Cookies option in the Security section by using the scroll bar on the right side of the window.
4. Select Always accept cookies and click OK.

To set cookies in Explorer 5.0:
1. From the Tools menu, choose Internet Options. The Internet Options window opens.
2. Click the Security tab. Select Internet and then click Custom Level. The Security Settings window opens.
3. Locate the two Cookies options by using the scroll bar on the right side of the window. Select Enable for both Cookies options and click OK to close the Security Settings window.
4. Click OK to close the Internet Options window.

To set cookies in Netscape:
1. Choose Preferences from the Edit menu.
2. Click the Advanced option on the left.
3. In the Cookies section of the window, choose Always accept cookies and click OK.

D. You must disable browser caching to prevent erroneous data from being displayed.

To disable caching in Explorer 4.01:
1. Choose Internet Options from the View menu.
2. In the Internet Options window, click Settings in the Temporary Internet Files group. The Settings window opens.
3. Make sure that Every visit to the page is selected for the Check for newer versions of stored pages option.
4. Click OK to close the Settings Window.
5. Click OK to close the Internet Options window.

To disable caching in Explorer 5.0:
1. From the Tools menu, choose Internet Options. The Internet Options window opens.
2. In the Temporary Internet files group, click Settings. The Settings window opens.
3. Select Every visit to the page for the Check for newer version of stored pages option.
4. Click OK to close the Settings window.
5. Click OK to close the Internet Options window.

To disable caching in Netscape:
1. Choose Preferences from the Edit menu. The Preferences window opens.
2. Expand the Advanced category by clicking the plus sign (+) next to Advanced. Select Cache under Advanced.
3. Make sure that Every time is selected for the Document in cache is compared to document on network option.
4. Click OK to close the Preferences window.
